Josh Pearson is one of my favourite artists. He used to be in a band called Lift To Experience which produced one classic album, ‘The Texas Jerusalem Crossroads’. For a while Josh simply disappeared.
Josh T Pearson at The Windmill, Brixton, December 2009.
Almost the entire gig here bar a few memory card changes.
Lush new songs. Wonderful stuff, reverb heavy cascading notes with Andy Young on drums the drummer from Lift to Experience!
And a hat. In fact there were two hats.
I was delighted to come accross him playing solo at the All Tomorrows Parties festival curated by The Dirty Three in 2007. I photographed Josh in London the following week, ...
I will be recreating this photograph on Sunday the 7th of December 2008 outside the ‘Fun Factory’ in 1907 celebrating the fact that the area and indeed the Clockwork Studios is still a vibrant creative community.
The obvious question is why?
To begin with the original is fascinating. If ever an image grabbed you and made you stare and wonder about the people in the photograph ...
I shot this for The Sunday Times, they were producing an Abbey Road Special magazine.
We had a wee tour bus with about 20 extras and the crew and we drove all over London to previously scouted locations to shoot different versions of how to cross the road safely whilst wearing fancy dress…
We didn’t shoot on Abbey Road itself by the way, it was more of a tribute to the original.
Fun fact: Michelle is in there wearing a wedding dress 6 months before we were married! (It wasn’t her dress so thats ok, isn’t it?)

Aired September 2009
We casted a lot of extras who travelled across London with us on a coach recreating the famous Beatles cover on a variety of crossroads. (We steered clear of the actual Abbey Road crossing!)
All of the portraits were made in May and June 2009 and we manged to shoot 247 people in 5 locations including Ruskin Park, Southwell Road, my back yard(!) and outside Loughborough Junction itself.
I’ll be posting more news soon as we are looking at the final logistics right now.. watch this space!
